Ode to Allie *
When we met, we were friends from the start.
It was friends for life and sisters at heart.
Sometimes it seemed we were joined at the hips.
Praise for you fell from my lips.
I sang at your wedding...
And babysat your daughter...
The friendship we had
Made me happy and glad.
Then one day I asked your opinion
I wanted the truth and get it I did.
Deep down I knew what you said was true,
I just couldn't accept it in my heart and my head.
I let the truth tear us apart
I've regretted it, too, right from the start.
I've lost my best friend,
A relationship I cannot mend.
My heart aches and bleeds
For the dear friend that I need.
But I cannot find you anywhere...
Even if I did, would you want me there?
I wish I could tell you
Just how much you've always meant to me,
How much I regret the past,
And how much I miss the friend and sister that I had in you.
Please forgive me for being such an idiot.
Know that I'm sorry from the bottom of my soul.
Wherever you are, near or far,
May God be with you, bless you, and bring happiness to you
For there is nobody on earth who deserves it more!

* I wrote this poem for my friend Allison Chandler, who I lost all contact with after moving to Reno in 1993. I've missed her friendship terribly over the years and have never had another friend like her. Thanks to Facebook, we are now again in contact and are friends again. Someday, we will see each other too (I hope) and I can hardly wait!
I love you and miss spending time with you, Allie-Bear!
